University of Leeds
HESA lists the provider as The University of Leeds. This page only uses figures we could read on a cited page on 6 November 2026. A residences page we opened is labelled 2027/28, so those rents are not used as this year’s prices.

Enrolment
HESA’s statistical bulletin SB273, Figure 7, academic year 2024/25, lists The University of Leeds (UKPRN 10007795) with a published total of 34,580 HE student enrolments.
The same row publishes Total UK 23,690 (England 22,890, Wales 370, Scotland 145, Northern Ireland 145, Other UK 135) and Total non-UK 10,890 (EU 405, non-EU 10,485), plus Not known 0. The published Total UK, Total non-UK and Not known add up to that total. Inner components are also rounded and need not add up to those subtotals.

University accommodation, 2026/27, as Leeds states it
The university’s living-costs page says its figures are a guideline for a single student in 2026, and that university rents are the published 2026/27 rates and are still provisional. University rent includes household bills and gym membership. Family accommodation does not include gym membership.
Self-catered university accommodation is a mean of £198 a week (range £122 to £273). Catered university accommodation is a mean of £248 a week (range £213 to £283), including 12 meals a week during term time. We did not open a 2026/27 room-by-room table on this run. The shared-houses page we did open says the rents underneath that heading are for 2027/28 (£126–£198 a week). Those are next year’s figures, so they are not the 2026/27 range above.
| Accommodation | Mean per week | Range per week |
|---|---|---|
| University, self-catered | £198 | £122 to £273 |
| University, catered, 12 term-time meals a week | £248 | £213 to £283 |

Private rent, in the university’s own estimate
The same living-costs page estimates self-catered private accommodation at a mean of £210 a week (range £80 to £339), and says costs may be higher for higher specifications. It says the private figures are averages listed on Unipol in August 2026. Bills may or may not be included. Student Sterling has not run its own rent survey.
Other weekly costs Leeds prints
The living-costs page says the rows below come from Whatuni, the NatWest Living Index and Save the Student, adjusted for inflation for 2026/27 where necessary. They are the university’s guideline, not a Student Sterling survey. Personal costs bundle transport with socialising, eating out, clothes and a phone, so we are not pulling a bus fare out of that row.
| Cost | Mean per week | Range |
|---|---|---|
| Groceries, toiletries and cleaning | £36 | £32 to £40 |
| Household bills, if rent does not include them | £17 | £15 to £18 |
| Personal costs, including transport | £59 | £46 to £71 |
The same page also prints a combined total of £171, £320 or £466 a week (lower, average, higher), £6,670, £12,480 or £18,170 for 39 weeks, and £8,890, £16,640 or £24,230 for 52 weeks. Tuition is not included. Source: Living costs and budgeting. Accessed 6 November 2026.
Transport
A separate student bus fare is not stated on the living-costs page. Transport sits inside the personal-costs row above. A 16–25 Railcard price stays on the Railcard site.

Campus and city
Mixed. The shared-houses page describes 15 properties on or near campus. We are not using that page’s rents, because it labels them 2027/28. The living-costs page treats university accommodation and private accommodation as separate choices. We have not measured journey times.
Why we use this living-cost band
Editorial label, not a university score and not a prediction of your room. We use “mid” because Leeds is outside London and the university’s own 2026/27 living-costs page, which it says is still provisional, starts self-catered university rent at £122 a week. Catered rooms on that page run from £213 to £283. The label is not your room.
Money support
The Financial Assistance Fund page says it is for essential living costs when there is genuine and unexpected difficulty, and that the assessment cannot include tuition fees or examination fees. It says the maximum total that can be awarded in any one academic year is £4,500. An award is not a main source of funding. Accessed 6 November 2026.
The Leeds Bursary page says the amount depends on household income, course and the year you started. The summary text we read does not print a cash tariff. We are not inventing one.
LUU Advice is described on the union’s financial wellbeing page as free, independent and confidential advice on financial issues that affect your studies. Accessed 6 November 2026.
Which student-finance body you use depends on where you normally live, not simply where you study. England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland each have their own route. See student loans.
Banking
The student accounts in our banking guide are UK-wide products. We have not counted branches near this university, so we do not name a best branch. Each account we list can be managed in an app or online. Check the provider for what you can do without a branch. We are not repeating overdraft limits here.
The Financial Assistance Fund page says all UK full-time undergraduates are expected to have a student bank account with a free overdraft facility, and that money available in an arranged overdraft counts as income in the assessment. It does not name a bank or a pound limit. Our banking guide is the place for account terms.
